Graduation with Leadership Distinction in Professional and Civic Engagement
ABOUT ME
My name is Sammy Huynh and I am studying Biology with a minor in Business Administration. On May 12th, 2018, I will be graduating with Leadership Distinction in Professional and Civic Engagement. My plan upon graduation is to pursue a Master of Science in Medical Sciences and then attend dental school once that is completed.

Over the course of my undergraduate career, I have developed myself as a pre-professional student through within and beyond the classroom experiences. I believe that the skills I have learned will prove valuable for me in my career in dentistry and am eager to apply them in my pratice. Being a dentist requires the ability to identify and solve problems, a dedication to life-long learning, and effective collaboration with a dental team and other healthcare professionals.

My involvement at USC has inspired me to lead by serving. This concept of servant-leading will be crucial as an aspiring dentist. The core of dentistry is serving others. The profession is not merely filling cavities and placing crowns on teeth, it is performing these procedures on patients. Servant-leading will keep the true passion for dentistry alive and motivate me to continually strive to be the best practitioner I can be. As a result, I will be able to serve my community to the best of my abilities. I desire to impact the lives of many others in a positive way through dentistry and will extensively use the leadership skills I have learned to do so.

In my portfolio, I am presenting three Key Insights that have been formulated as a result of my undergraduate experiences at USC. These insights are reflective of those within and beyond the classroom involvements and are values that I will carry onward into my professional endeavors. My Key Insights are:

-
Critical Thinking Leads to Solutions
-
The Growth Mindset
-
The Importance of Collaboration

Following my Key Insights, you will find the Leadership section. This is where I describe how I will utilize and apply the insights and experiences I have gained as a leader against barriers to care in dentistry.
